JAKARTA - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to world leaders gathered at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday to unite against Russia's invasion, saying Moscow must be pushed back so the world can move on to solving urgent global challenges.
This is the first time President Zelensky has appeared in person at the UN General Assembly in New York, United States, since the Russian invasion in February 2022.
"Ukraine is doing everything to ensure that, after Russia's aggression, no one in the world dares to attack any country," said President Zelensky, as reported by Reuters, September 20.
"Weapons must be limited, war crimes must be punished, deportees must return home and invaders must be driven back to their own land," he continued.
"We have to unite to make it happen and we will make it happen," said President Zelensky.
Furthermore, he accused Russia of manipulating global food markets to seek international recognition for the ownership of land it seized from Kyiv.
On the same occasion, President Zelensky spoke about the worsening climate crisis and natural disasters, mentioning the recent earthquake in Morocco and floods in Libya.
"We must stop it. We must act united to defeat the aggressors and focus all our capabilities and energies on overcoming these challenges," he appealed to the General Assembly.

Last year, President Zelensky presented a 10-point plan that included restoring Ukraine's territorial integrity, the withdrawal of Russian troops and cessation of hostilities, and the restoration of Ukraine's state borders.
President Zelensky said he was now working towards a peace summit based on that.
"Tomorrow I will convey the details at a special meeting of the UN Security Council," he concluded.
Ukraine gave up its third largest nuclear arsenal. The world then decided Russia should become a keeper of such power. Yet, history shows it was Russia who deserved nuclear disarmament the most.
