Signing MoU with KPU, Minister of Religion Ready to Help Make 2024 Election a Success

JAKARTA - Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas stated that the Ministry of Religion is ready to assist in making the 2024 General Election a success.

"This is an opportunity that I think we (Ministry of Religion) should not miss," he said at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between ministries and institutions ahead of the elections reported by ANTARA, Friday, September 15.

For this reason, Minister of Religion Yaqut said that his party had prepared around 50 thousand counselors within the Ministry of Religion to carry out outreach about the election.

Apart from that, he said there are also a number of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) level schools, some of which have voting rights, which can also be used to conduct election outreach.

"Then universities in the Ministry of Religion, starting from high schools, institutes, then universities can also be used. We have all these instruments, and we are providing them to contribute to future elections," said the man who is familiarly called Gus Men.

Gus Men said that the Ministry of Religion also has Religious Affairs Offices (KUA) spread across all sub-districts throughout Indonesia which can assist the General Election Commission (KPU) in implementing the 2024 Election.

He admitted that he was grateful to be involved in the democratic process which he said was part of history in Indonesia.

"We are welcome if the KPU wants to use the KUA offices at the Ministry of Religion for electoral activities," he said.

This memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by a number of ministries and institutions such as the General Election Commission (KPU), Ministry of Religion (Kemenag), Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora), and the Center for Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis (PPATK) regarding the 2024 Election.
