JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemenkominfo) has cut off access to 1.9 million pornographic content as a tangible form of protecting the Indonesian people from spreading negative content in the digital space.

Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said based on data from the Directorate General of Informatics Applications (Ditjen Aptika) Kemenkominfo that until September 14, 2023 pornographic content had been cut off totaling 1,950,794.

"There are about 1,211,573 content website, then on social media as much as 737,146 content and on the file sharing platform as much as 2,075 content," Budi said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 15.

More specifically, Budi said that during his leadership, which began on July 17, 2023, there were 60,791 pornographic content that had been handled by the Ministry of Communication and Information.

As for the most handled content, it comes from social media totaling 42,521 content, then from the website a total of 18,219 content, and 51 content comes from the file sharing platform.

The authority of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics to handle termination of access to pornographic content is contained in Government Regulation Number 71 of 2019 concerning the Implementation of Electronic Systems and Transactions and Regulation of the Minister of Communication and Information Number 5 of 2020 concerning Private Scope PSE.

In addition to pornographic content, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics also has the right to directly cut off access to content with gambling content in accordance with the same rules.

Previously, related to the eradication of pornographic content on Monday (31/7) Polda Metro Jaya arrested two suspects in the case of a porn film production house in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.
