When Will TNI Commander Yudo Margono Retire? Here Are The Rules

YOGYAKARTA People need to know when the TNI Commander Yudo Margono retired. TNI Admiral Yudo Margono himself served as TNI Commander officially and was ratified by the DPR in the 12th plenary meeting which was held on December 13, 2022. He replaced TNI General Andika Perkasa, who had entered retirement.

It should be noted that the TNI Commander Yudo Margono will soon enter retirement from the Indonesian military world as of December 1, 2023. The retirement period of a military soldier is regulated in Law no. 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI.

Referring to Law no. 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI, the dismissal of TNI soldiers including the TNI Commander is carried out taking into account the age of retirement. Article 53 of Law no. 34 of 2004 states that the retirement period of the TNI Commander is 58 years.

"The soldiers carry out the military service until the maximum age of 58 (fifty-eight) years for officers, and 53 (fifty-three) years for non-commissioned and non-commissioned officers." Thus reads Article 53 of the TNI Law.

Article 55 explains the reason why TNI military soldiers were honorably dismissed from service for several reasons, namely as follows.

Taking into account these rules can be concluded that the TNI Commander Yudo Margono is approaching retirement and will be dismissed from his military service from the TNI. Yudo Margono himself was born on November 26, 1965, which means that in November 2023 he will turn 57 years old.

Although Yudo Margono will enter retirement, there is currently a discourse on an extension of office. This option applies to the positions of the TNI Commander and KSAD. Related to this, the Chairman of Commission I of the DPR, Meutya Hafid, handed over the certainty of this option to the Government.

"Yes, it's an option, there is an option for an extension, there is a change option in the near future for both positions simultaneously because the TNI Commander and Army Chief of Staff, but this is welcome for the Godog government, especially the president," said Meutya at the parliament complex, Wednesday, September 13.

In addition, it should be noted that the retirement period limit for TNI soldiers is being sued to the Constitutional Court, namely Article 53 of the TNI Law No. 34 of 2004. The lawsuit itself was filed by the Head of the Legal Development Agency (Kababinkum) TNI Laksda Kresno Buntoro and five other people namely Colonel TNI Chk Sumaryo, TNI Chief Sergeant Suwardi, Colonel TNI (Ret.) Lasman Nahapuh, TNI Colonel (Ret.) Eko Haryanto, and Lieutenant Dua TNI (Ret.) Sumanto.

In the lawsuit, they asked to extend the retirement age of soldiers from 58 years to 60 years.
