BANTUL - The Bantul Regency Government, Yogyakarta Special Region, has optimized the existence of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (TPS 3R) Waste Processing Sites which were formed at the village level to solve waste problems.

"The 3R TPS in Bantul is now active at approximately 18 polling stations, but the 18 are not in each sub-district, not evenly distributed. There is one sub-district where there are two TPS3R," said Head of the Bantul Environmental Service (DLH) Ari Budi Nugroho in Bantul quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 11.

According to him, TPS 3R, which is a sub-district-owned enterprise (Bumkal) and is managed by the community together with the kelurahan, will continue to be encouraged to process independent waste, even supported by equipment so that the waste produced by the local community can be managed optimally.

Even so, he said, there are still 3R TPS in Bantul that are less active in carrying out activities, so that the district government continues to provide education so that waste processing continues so that waste can be completed at the village level.

"It is undeniable that the inactive 3R TPS is our duty from the government to provide education, maybe we identify why it is not active, it could also be because of institutions, it could also be because it may be related to the facilities, it could be that the place is damaged or maybe the tools are no longer supporting it," he said.

However, he said, most of the findings from DLH Bantul showed that the inactivity of the TPS was due to institutions that had not been optimal, so that in the future assistance would continue to be provided so that they could support the Clean Waste Bantul program.

Ari Budi also said that apart from TPS 3R, the existence of independent waste managers (PSM) in Bantul, which is hundreds of which are also encouraged to continue to synergize with waste management networks, through various waste processing activities that are beneficial to the community.

"PSM in managing waste is possible in the form of Sodaqoh Sampah or Bank Sampah, so we are not only fixated on 3R TPS, but this PSM can be managed by Bumkal, and can be managed by groups in the form of 3R TPS," he said.
