Intolerance Is Called The Main Bibit Of Radicalism And Division In Society

JAKARTA - Head of the Indonesian National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Komjen Rycko Amelza Dahniel said that the intolerance factor was the main seeds of radicalism.

Therefore, Rycko emphasized that the democratic process must be managed so as not to cause division in society.

"The factor of intolerance is the main seeds of radicalism, if it is not managed properly there will be frictions in society," he said.

This was said by Rycko referring to the results of the 2023 Kompas Research and Development survey which showed that tolerance occupies the first position in the factor causing community polarization ahead of the 2024 General Election.

Furthermore, the Head of BNPT invited all parties to be aware of these intolerant factors. If not, he said, intolerance could be followed by other factors, such as hoaxes and divisive politics.

On that occasion, he also explained that intolerance could spread because of the massive, systematic, and structured ideological movements carried out by terrorist cells.

According to him, the joint mechanisms of the government, religious leaders, the community, to academics and the mass media play a role in building national awareness and resilience, as well as creating a healthy climate of democracy.

"A mechanism must be made togetherness, with religious leaders, the community, involving all parties. We should not make it a democracy to carry out usury freedoms," said the Head of BNPT.

The 2023 LPOI-LPOK Nationality Consolidation raised the theme "Mitigation of Political Turbulence 2024, Beware of Intolerance Radicalism, and Saving National Assets".

The consolidation was attended by the General Chairperson of the LPOI-LPOK KH Said Aqil Siroj; Committee for Political, Legal and Security Coordinator (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD; as well as several elements of the leadership of representatives of LPOI-LPOK member organizations and friends.
