JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency has asked metal smelting companies in East Jakarta to activate continuous emission monitoring or Continuous Emissions Monitoring (CEM) on the reheating furnace.

The activity is useful for monitoring emissions that come out of the trash accurately and up-to-date (real time) when reheating is carried out, thus becoming a real action for controlling air pollution in the capital city.

Head of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency, Asep Kuswanto, said that administrative sanctions for the government's coercion were given to metal smelting companies in East Jakarta, namely PT Jakarta Central Asia Steel.

Government coercion administrative sanctions can be increased to temporary suspension of part or all businesses or activities, if the request is not complied with.

He hopes that the industry can obey environmental rules, for the common good.

Monitoring of sustainable emissions from CEM can be directly connected to the Information System Monitoring of Continuous Industry Emissions (SISPEK) of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

The metal smelting effort is also expected to minimize pollutants resulting from heating through activating the electrostatic particle filtering device (Electrostatic Precipitator/ESP).
