"Canada is ASEAN's strategic partner in building food security, building downstream industries and building open and fair trade in the region," said President Jokowi, Wednesday, September 6.

"As a strategic partner, I hope that Canada can become an anchor of peace and regional stability that obeys international law, encouraging more concrete and inclusive cooperation, especially in passively indo areas," hoped President Jokowi.

Meanwhile, PM Trudeau appreciated the partnership between ASEAN and Canada, reaffirming support for ASEAN's centrality in the Indo-Pacific.

"Canada is a passive country. Indo-Pacific is our environment. This partnership is very important for us. Canada has great respect for ASEAN's centrality in the Indo-Pacific," said PM Trudeau.

"The Canadian Indo-Pacific and ASEAN Outlook on The Indo-Pacific policies are aligned. We have a clear and equal commitment to security and stability, openness and transparency to develop economic cooperation," he said.

He added that Canada is committed to improving relations and increasing presence in the region.
