The police have examined the feasibility of elevator facilities used by hotels, resorts and similar accommodation service providers after the case of breaking the lift celling rope at Ayu Terra Resort Ubud, Gianyar, Bali, which resulted in the death of five employees of the place.
"We want tourists to come to Bali just to think about having fun, without worrying about safety. Therefore, we as officers will guarantee that all facilities in Bali are safe to use," said Ubud Sector Police Chief Police Commissioner Made Uder when met at the scene of the death of five employees of Ayu Terra Resort, Ubud, Gianyar, Monday, September 4.
He said the inspection of the lift's feasibility was to provide a sense of security to visiting tourists, especially to the Ubud area, Bali. The inspection has started since Sunday (3/9) at several inns.
The former head of the Operations Section of the Denpasar Police said that based on the results of the examination at several inns, the police found that there was an inn that used an open elevator like the one at Ayu Terra Resort.
However, based on information from the resort owner, the elevator is only used for goods transportation purposes and is only about 30 meters long.
In addition to visiting lodging places in Ubud, the police will also summon all hotel, resort and villa owners to provide feasibility documents and maintenance of the facilities used in the accommodation prepared.
"All accommodation managements who have an elevator will be summoned to the police station. We ask for treatment documents. So, it is not only limited to providing information (releases)," he said.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Gianyar Resort Police has so far examined 11 witnesses consisting of two contractors and nine other people from employees of Ayu Terra Resort. So far there are no suspects in the incident.
On Monday afternoon, several Ubud Police and Bali Police Inafis personnel came to the scene to conduct a series of investigations. Meanwhile, activities at the location were observed to be quiet because the resort guests had been moved to other places for convenience.
From Antara's observation at the location, the area around the elevator that was the scene of the death of five employees had already installed a police line.
Previously, on Friday, September 1, 2023, at around 13.00 WITA, the elevator at Ayu Terra Resort Ubud was reportedly cut off, resulting in the death of five employees.
According to a Ubud Police report, the accident was allegedly caused by a bridge elevator rope that was climbed by five employees of the Ayu Terra Resort made of broken steel, then the elevator tube slid down and fell into a ravine.
The police suspect that the steel charging rope from the elevator is not strong enough to pull the load up which is quite heavy and the safety or brake jam does not work so that the elevator slides at high speed down.
