PKS Immediately Introduces Anies Baswedan As A Presidential Candidate To The People Of Surabaya

JAKARTA - The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) is ready to introduce Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election to the people in the city of Surabaya, East Java.

Chairman of the Surabaya PKS DPD Johari Mustawan in his statement in Surabaya, Sunday, September 3, said that his party was following the direction of the PKS Central Leadership Council (DPP) to consistently support Anies Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

"The structure and all members and sympathizers of PKS Surabaya are upright with the DPP and DPW PKS East Java, remain solid and consistent with Anies's presidential candidate," said Bang Jo, Johari Mustawan's nickname, as reported by Antara.

According to him, all levels of the Surabaya PKS structure starting at the city level, sub-districts and even branches, are ready to introduce and socialize Anies Baswedan to all residents of Surabaya.

The chairman of the PKS faction of the Surabaya DPRD, Cahyo Siswo Utomo, said the same thing. He said that the coalition's decision was entirely in the DPP which was decided in the Syuro Council deliberation.

In the deliberation of the VIII Syuro Council, it was decided that PKS would officially support and carry Anies Rasyid Baswedan as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election.

"This decision has not changed so PKS Surabaya has one khittah with the DPP, consistently supports and carries Anies as a presidential candidate in the 2024 presidential election," he said.

Chairman of the PKS DPP Al Muzzammil Yusuf previously stated that PKS still supports Anies Baswedan as a candidate for the 2024 presidential election, even though he did not attend the declaration of the prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates, Anies and Muhamin, which were held by NasDem and PKB in Surabaya on Saturday (2/9/2023).

"So, the position of PKS remains straight with the party's highest institution, namely the Syuro Council supports Anies Baswedan as a (bakal) presidential candidate, where Anies Baswedan is proposed to be a (bakal) presidential candidate. PKS fully supports this because of the mandate of the party's highest institution in PKS," he said.

Muzzammil emphasized that PKS is still a member of the Change Coalition for Unity (KPP) that carries Anies Baswedan as a candidate for president.

Based on the schedule set by the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia, the registration of prospective presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to start from October 19 to November 25, 2023.

As regulated in Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections (UU Pemilu), pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in the election who meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total number of seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that the pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in the DPR RI. It could also be that the candidate pairs are promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
