Batam Police Hunt For Delivery Of 4 Prospective Illegal Migrant Workers

BATAM - The Barelang City Police (Batam, Rempang, Galang) are hunting for the perpetrators of sending four non-procedural or illegal Indonesian migrant workers abroad.

"We rescued four non-procedural migrant workers who were about to depart abroad on Wednesday (23/8) night and are still hunting for one person whose identity has been identified," said Barelang Police Chief Kombes Nugroho Tri Nuryanto as reported by ANTARA, Friday, August 25.

He said the disclosure of the case of sending prospective illegal migrant workers stems from information received by the police regarding the unofficial sending of prospective migrant workers abroad.

From this information, the police conducted an investigation and monitoring at a hotel that became a temporary shelter for prospective illegal migrant workers in the Batam City area, Batam City, on Wednesday (23/8) night. Then at around 23.30 WIB, the police managed to secure the four prospective migrant workers.

The police chief said the four prospective migrant workers came from West Java with two people, South Sumatra with one person and another from Sulawesi. They claimed to be sent to Saudi Arabia, without complete procedures.

"Currently, the four prospective illegal migrant workers have been taken to the Batam City Police for further investigation and will be returned to their area of origin after an examination is carried out," he said.

The police chief said that his party had also succeeded in uncovering a case of trafficking in persons in the Nongsa area, Batam City, on the same day, Wednesday (23/8) and managed to arrest one suspect with the initials Y (40).

"From this case in Nongsa, we managed to save six prospective illegal migrant workers who will be dispatched to Singapore," he said.
