IKN Submarine Tunnel Starts Construction In 2024

PENAJAM - Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) through the State Capital Infrastructure Development Implementation Task Force (IKN) revealed that the construction of underwater tunnels or immune-fed tunnels in IKN Nusantara will begin in 2024.

"We have just finished the feasibility study, and from the results of the feasibility study, we will make a design. God willing, next year we can start (the construction)," said the Head of the Task Force (Kasatgas) for the Implementation of the Sumadilaga Danis Infrastructure Development at IKN Nusantara, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, August 23.

Danis said that after the preparation of the Immersed tunnel design, the Ministry of PUPR then conducted an auction.

Thus, the Ministry of PUPR estimates that auctions and construction of minimized tunnels can start next year.

"The design of the Immersed tunnel is designed in box form with a length of between 1 and 1.5 km," said Danis.

The Immersed Tunnel was also designed by the Ministry of PUPR for six toll roads.

"So we first make boximersed tunnels on land, then withdraw them in such a way and then we sink them underwater," said Danis.

Immersed tunneled is part of the IKN Access Toll Road that connects Balikpapan City with IKN Nusantara, where toll users cross into IKN.

The IKN Access Toll Road has a length of 47 km with reference references from Sepinggan Balikpapan Airport to IKN can be reached in approximately 30 minutes.

"If we can start the construction of dimersed tunneling in 2024 then it can be completed in about 2-3 years," said Danis.

For the time being, he continued, financing for the construction of an immersed tunnel using the APBN, but did not rule out the possibility of using the KPBU scheme.

For example, the application of technologyimmersed tunneling has been implemented in many countries such as Fehmarn tunnels in Europe and Geoje, Busan in South Korea.

Immersed tunneling technology is a method commonly used to replace bridges that pass through wide territorial waters.
