JAKARTA - Two agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) were killed and three others injured during a search of a house of a suspected child pronographer in Sunrise, Florida on Tuesday morning local time.
"When the law enforcement team tried to execute a court order involving violent crimes against children, shots were fired at 6 a.m. EST," the FBI said in a statement.
Two of the three FBI agents who were injured said the statement was in stable condition and hospitalized. Another agent who was injured did not require hospitalization. Meanwhile, the suspect is known to have died in the incident.
FBI Director Christopher Wray identified the dead agents as Daniel Alfin and Laura Schwartzenberger. He called them heroes.
"Special Agent Alfin and Special Agent Schwartzenberger exemplify today's heroism in defending their country," Wray said in a statement.
"The FBI will always honor their last sacrifice and will forever be grateful for their courage," he added.
