10 Years Of Joko Widodo's Government Called As Acting Advanced Indonesia

JAKARTA The leading Indonesian legal expert and practitioner, Melli Darsa, legacy built by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) became an important stepping stone on Indonesia's journey as a developed country.

Melli said President Jokowi had succeeded in proving the initial views of many parties, including myself regarding his understanding of the complex regulatory ecosystem and constitutional law.

"He succeeded in making the necessary break-ups to fix regulations in Indonesia which are very important to provide legal certainty and protection for the community and business actors," Melli said in her statement, Friday, August 18.

Melli, who has more than 30 years of experience in the fields of Indonesian law and regulations, further said that President Jokowi, although he is often criticized by the methods taken, cannot be denied that he has succeeded in carrying out a significant transformation in the field of law and regulations in Indonesia, surpassing the previous President in the post-Reform era.

he said, the break-up introduced by President Jokowi in fixing laws and regulations in Indonesia has had a strong impact that will continue into the years to come.

His commitment to increase ease of doing business and create a better financial ecosystem, with his courage to present new methods, concepts and legal institutions shows his effectiveness in creating legal solutions to the economic socio-economic problems of the people.

"All of this took part in helping Indonesia to achieve a better position in the global ease of doing business ranking," he explained.

Based on the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) ranking released by the World Bank which includes assessments for indicators related to ease of construction permits, access to electricity, management of property legality, credit facilities, taxation, export-import procedures, to legal protection for investors who own minority shares, in 2015, Indonesia was ranked 114th out of 190 countries. Meanwhile, currently in 2023, Indonesia's Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) ranking is ranked at 73 and 190 countries.

Melli also highlighted the importance of sustainability of the legacy that Jokowi had inherited. In his view, Indonesia's development must continue on the foundation that has been laid for ten years of Jokowi's administration.

"Indonesia must walk towards a future by building on this legacy. Continuity in development will be the key to the vision of Indonesia Gold 2045," concluded Melli.
