Anwar Iskandar Becomes Chairman Of MUI, This Is The Deputy Response

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas said Anwar Iskandar who was appointed as the General Chair of the MUI was the ideal leader.

"He is a good person, has extensive knowledge, has leadership. So Kiai Anwar Iskandar has met the criteria for the ideal leadership. He is mature," Anwar said when contacted from Jakarta, Tuesday, August 15, as quoted by Antara.

Anwar was previously decided to become the General Chair of the MUI replacing Miftachul Akhyar at the MUI Leadership Plenary Meeting which was held at the Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta.

After the plenary meeting, the decision will be taken to the Plenary Meeting of the MUI Leadership Council to be ratified. Regarding the time, the holding of the Plenary Meeting of the Leadership Council will consult with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin who is also the Chairman of the MUI Advisory Council.

Anwar said he was happy because the institution that accommodated the ulama would have a general chairman after Miftachul Akhyar's death. The reason is, the vacant seat of the Ketum has been running for more than a year.

Anwar hopes that the MUI under the command of Anwar Iskandar will be even more solid. Moreover, there are many public and national issues that must be discussed.

"What for me is not only the task of the government, elements of the people must also care. People like Kiai Anwar Iskandar already understand such problems," he said.

Anwar Iskandar has been known as the Senior Kiai Nahdlatul Ulama (NU). Currently he serves as Deputy Rais Aam PBNU for the period 2022-2027. Apart from PBNU, Anwar is also active at MUI and is listed as one of the Deputy Chairs of the 2020-2025 MUI Advisory Council (Wantim).
