The Ministry Of Law And Human Rights Of North Sumatra Proposes 19,962 Prisoners From 39 Prisons Obtaining Independence Remissions

NORTH Sumatra - The Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of North Sumatra (North Sumatra) proposed that 19,962 inmates receive remissions on the 78th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia in 2023.

"The amount is still a proposal, all or decreased amounts can be granted from the center (Kemenkumham RI)," said Head of the Correctional Division of the North Sumatra Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Office Rudi Sianturi in Medan, North Sumatra, Sunday, August 13, as reported by Antara.

He said the thousands of prisoners proposed to receive special remissions on August 17, 2023, came from 39 correctional institutions (prisons) or state detention centers (rutan) in North Sumatra.

"It could be that later there will be a follow-up remission proposal," he said.

According to Rudi, correctional inmates who are proposed to get remission must already have a legal decision and have permanent legal force.

"Residents of correctional assistance who have just arrived for a decision and have legal force must still serve a sentence of six months until August 17, 2023," he said.

Rudi added that the total number of correctional inmates is currently 31,963 people, with details of 25,167 prisoners and 6,796 prisoners.
