Encourage Anies' Companion Name To Be Announced, AHY: Very Valuable Time

Chairman (Ketum) of the Democratic Party Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono alias AHY alluded to the risk of uncertainty regarding the announcement of the name of the future presidential candidate (candidate) Anies Baswedan.

He said his party certainly hopes that the names of the candidates for vice president can be announced by Anies Baswedan and the Coalition for Change, consisting of the Democratic, NasDem and PKS parties.

"I think we all have hope, just like what was expensive in life, clarity and certainty. I think everything is like that, that's why we often say that uncertainty and uncertainty often make people not optimal," AHY said in response to reporters' questions during a press conference session at the DPP office. He explained that his statement was rational because time was a valuable resource to win in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu) and the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres).

"In cross-party communications, three parties, we have often raised these issues. Democrats are also at the forefront to say that time is very valuable. Time is very valuable. We want to immediately do various effective things, right on target. However, all of this certainly requires clarity and unity of command," said AHY.

Apart from that, AHY said the Democrats would still submit the decision to Anies as agreed by the other two parties.

"We all know, there is already one name in the pocket of the presidential candidate (Anies, ed.). He will determine and announce directly to the people. But of course we also understand the dynamics, the political constellation continues to move. What is clear is that we want to be successful in this election, not just want to join in. We want to get good historical opportunities as expected by the people of Indonesia," said AHY.

Registration for presidential and vice presidential candidates is scheduled to take place from 19 October 2023 to 25 November 2023.

Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections (UU Pemilu) regulates that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates are proposed by political parties or coalitions of political parties participating in elections that meet the requirements for obtaining seats of at least 20 percent of the total seats in the DPR or obtaining 25 percent of valid votes nationally in the previous election for members of the DPR.

Currently, there are 575 seats in parliament so that pairs of presidential and vice presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election must have at least 115 seats in support from the Indonesian House of Representatives. Candidate pairs can also be promoted by political parties or a combination of political parties participating in the 2019 Election, with a total valid vote acquisition of at least 34,992,703 votes.
