Overcoming Air Pollution, Jakarta Provincial Government Encourages Use of Electric Vehicles

JAKARTA - The increase in air pollution in Jakarta is influenced by various emission sources that cause pollution, both from local sources, such as transportation and residential areas, as well as regional sources from industrial areas close to Jakarta. Therefore, DKI Pemprov continues to strive to improve air quality in Jakarta through various programs.

Acting Governor (Pj) of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said various efforts to reduce sources of pollution in Jakarta have been carried out, such as replacing buses that produce high pollution with ones that are more environmentally friendly, implementing an odd-even policy, disincentive policies on parking fees for vehicles that do not pass the emission test, area data collection, as well as expanding and optimizing Green Open Space (RTH).

Apart from that, DKI Pemprov also intensifies tree planting which is carried out every Tuesday or Friday. From October 2022 to July 2023, the City Parks and Forestry Office and Sub-agency have planted 10,474 trees and will continue to grow.

Meanwhile, the number of tree and ornamental plant planting carried out by 5 (five) Administrative City Regions and Seribu Islands Regency for the April-July 2023 period was 55,345 shade trees and productive trees, and 203,973 plants.

In 2023, DKI Jakarta Parks and City Forest Service will build a total of 23 new parks spread over 5 (five) Administrative City areas, with an area of ​​up to 6.7 hectares. This is expected to provide beneficial long-term effects for the air and environment in Jakarta.

"This condition is a big challenge for us at DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. Therefore, the programs that are already running will continue to be improved. Apart from that, we also urge all residents to help in improving air quality in Jakarta. Start switching to using transportation now there are more and more choices, there are Transjakarta, MRT, LRT, Microtrans, please use them," said Acting. Governor Heru in Jakarta, Friday, August 11.

Furthermore, Pj. Governor Heru Budi Hartono said the plan to improve air quality in Jakarta is a long-term program that must be continuously monitored. To make this successful, synergy is also needed with the surrounding regional governments, namely Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Bodetabek).

"Once again, we DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to do our best to improve air quality in Jakarta. Cooperation from all stakeholders and all residents who live in Jakarta and friends in Bodetabek are also needed to reduce this level of air pollution," concluded Pj. Governor Haru.
