DKI Provincial Government Opens East-West MRT Project Tender Later This Year

Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that the tender for the construction of the MRT Jakarta line east-west will begin at the end of this year.

"We hope that in December we will begin to enter the tender process," said Syafrin when met at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, August 8.

Yesterday, Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono received the basic engineering design (BED) MRTeast-west phase 1 from the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi.

After the BED document is received, the DKI Provincial Government will conduct an evaluation and improvement of the study with the central government, as well as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) which is the investor of this project.

"This is still being carried out to improve the study together with the Ministry of Transportation, the DKI Provincial Government, of course including JICA. We hope that the improvement will take about 1 month. The confirmation after the BED document is available, then it will enter the tender process stage," explained Syafrin.

Previously in the submission of the BED, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi emphasized that the MRTeast-west was included in a strategic project (PSN) that must be jointly monitored. It is targeted that the construction of phase 3 MRT will be built starting in August 2024.

"The Ministry of Transportation will continue to support the implementation of rail-based mass transportation development together with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. It is hoped that the groundbreaking can be carried out in August 2024," Budi said at the Ministry of Transportation, Central Jakarta, Monday, August 7.

Budi advised the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to immediately appoint institutions under its control and authority to carry out project development. According to Budi, this needs to be done so that development can be carried out immediately as directed by President Joko Widodo.

"I entrust this project to the Directorate General of Railways as the coach of the railway sector to coordinate with relevant stakeholders, including the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government," he explained.

Currently, the North-South Line MRT has operated 16 kilometers from Lebak Bulus to the HI Roundabout, with the average daily passenger reaching 100,000 per day.
