January-August, DKI Satpol PP Securing 4,034 Beggars and Homeless

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Satpol PP secured 4,035 social welfare service targets (PPKS) such as beggars and homeless people from early January to early August 2023.

"4,035 have been reached by Satpol PP, from January to early August. Because they report updates every day," said Head of DKI Jakarta Satpol PP Arifin in his statement, Tuesday, August 8.

During this half year, the most targeted PPKS segmentation for Satpol PP raids were beggars and homeless people with a total of 1,247 people. Apart from that, there were 639 buskers, 445 pak averse, and 309 manusia gerobak.

PPKS raids on public spaces in the Capital City have been carried out since February until now. Arifin said, the dilution of PPKS raids by DKI Satpol PP was deliberately started two months before entering Ramadan. This is because the appearance of beggars and homeless people is usually more prevalent every Eid.

This, said Arifin, is a solution to reduce the prevalence of people with social welfare problems in Jakarta.

"We anticipate it before the fasting month because usually people will come or do begging and so on during the fasting month," he continued.

Arifin said the existence of PPKS clearly violated Regional Regulation No. 8 of 2007 concerning Public Order. Satpol PP has stages of action taken, starting from a warning to bringing the raided PPKS to a social institution.

"All were taken to the Kedoya Social Institution, so of course later it will be assessed again whether they can be accommodated in the orphanage or maybe they have families, families are summoned and so on," he explained.
