Had Shouted, Mahfud MD's Courage To Investigate Rp349 Trillion Was Questioned

JAKARTA - The courage of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam), Mahfud MD to completely dismantle the case of Money Laundering (TPPU) of Rp. 349 trillion has begun to be questioned.

The reason is, until now, Mahfud's steps are increasingly unclear, even there is an impression of being cool with chickens. Whereas previously, Mahfud had boasted in the media about his desire to dismantle the flow of funds.

Previously, on June 8, 2023, Mahfud revealed about the TPPU amounting to Rp349 trillion. However, until July 26, 2023, no new developments have been announced. As a result, the public began to question about sustainability and seriousness in handling the case.

"Public, sad and concerned about the absence of new developments in handling cases that caused a stir in the community and became a crowded debate in the DPR," said the General Chairperson of the Prosperous Community (HMS) Center, Hardjuno Wiwoho, to the media, Wednesday, July 26.

Hardjuno also demanded Mahfud MD's promise to seriously open the flow of funds of Rp. 349 trillion which shocked the public. Moreover, until now, there has been no current news regarding the concrete developments.

"Don't let it slack off. Because people continue to ask questions," he said.

One of the questions that often arise to the public, explained Hardjuno, is the concrete steps that have been taken by the TPPU Task Force and the Legal Reform Acceleration Team since they were formed on June 9, 2023.

And if there are obstacles, it must be explained to the public. This is so that public trust in law enforcement efforts and eradicating corruption, including money laundering, is maintained.

"In a situation where transparency and accountability are important, the public hopes that the government will provide the latest information regarding the Rp349 trillion money laundering case," said Hardjuno.

Hardjuno, who is also the Main Expert Staff of the BLBI Special Committee, DPD RI, admitted that many teams were formed by the government but were ineffective.

"The team is getting fatter, but how come it's getting slower? Alias has no acceleration or clarity," he added.

Hardjuno reminded that the money laundering offense case with a value of Rp. 349 trillion is a very complex case and has a big impact on state finances.

Therefore, transparency and openness in handling this case are very important so that the public can know the concrete developments and steps taken by the government in handling this case.

"We hope that Mr. Mahfud can immediately provide the latest updates regarding the development of the Rp349 trillion TPPU case and ensure that the investigation process runs transparently and fairly. Hopefully the steps taken by the government can bring justice to the community and state," concluded Hardjuno.
