Head of the Lampung Provincial Transportation Service (Kadishub), Bambang Sumbogo said, in December 2023 the Executive Pier II of Bakauheni Port is targeted to operate.
"Currently, the interest of people using the executive dock is very much, until finally there was a long queue. Because many have switched from air transportation modes, now they rely on land transportation. So now the mode of transportation is competing to improve services," said Bambang Sumbogo in Bandarlampung, Antara, Monday, July 24.
As an effort to improve services at the ferry port for sea transportation users, an executive dock will be added which will operate in December.
"To maximize services because the interest in using the executive dock is very high, there is an additional executive dock at Bakauheni-Merak Port. So the pier of two which was previously a regular ship dock is now converted into an executive dock," he also said.
He explained that with the addition of one more executive dock, there will be a total of eight ships that will operate to serve community crossings using executive ships.
"Later at the executive dock, there will be four ships and two executive docks with four more units, so there are a total of eight ships, to improve executive crossing services," he said again.
According to him, the work on the conversion of regular piers to executive piers has been carried out since the beginning of the year, and currently the ferry port manager is preparing a ship that is in accordance with the executive dock standards.
"Operational is targeted to have started in December, the addition of the executive dock is a form of commitment to provide the best service, because many people are no longer concerned with tariffs, they are more concerned with service comfort. No matter how much the tariff if the service is good, it will be chosen," he also said.
Commitment in increasing the comfort of sea transportation users, especially users of executive ships at Bakauheni-Merak Port by PT ASDP, is carried out by increasing the provision of executive docks which include increasing capacity, renovating the waiting room for executive service II.
The access bridge length at Bakauheni Port is 70.5 meters long with a height of 9,596 meters and a pedestrian space width of four meters wide. The total investment value of infrastructure development supporting the executive dock service amounted to more than Rp27 billion.
The cross-island crossing from Bakauheni Port to Merak Port is known to be one of the busiest routes with the number of users of the sea transportation mode. In 2022 there were 2,694,885 vehicles crossing through Merak Port and 2,515,589 vehicles crossing through Bakauheni Port.
