Mahfud MD: PPATK Cannot Be Intervened By Anyone

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD reminded that no one can intervene in the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).

"I just told the Head of PPATK, Mr. Ivan, work professionally, firmly, and there should be no intervention from anyone. Generals, ministers are not allowed to provide direct directions without going through the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs on PPATK's work," Mahfud said when opening the Green Financial Crime (GFC) Fair as quoted in his written statement, Thursday, July 20.

In addition, direct directions to PPATK can only be given by the President. "In addition to the president, all coordination of money laundering crimes (TPPU) should not be dictated by anyone and every intervention effort should be distributed to me as the Head of the TPPU Task Force," said Mahfud.

Mahfud appreciated various parties such as the Supervisory and Regulatory Agency (LPP) and other regulators who have supported the National Anti-Money Laundering Movement and Prevention of Terrorism Financing (APU-PPT) for 21 years. However, he hopes that strengthening will be carried out because the challenges ahead will be even tougher.

Not only that, synergy must also be further strengthened between stakeholders. Moreover, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) often pays attention to several issues related to financial crimes.

"I welcome today's activity program," he said.

"With the hope that it can further strengthen domestic cooperation relations, especially in an effort to protect the integrity of the national financial system from threats and risks of money laundering or money laundering, financing terrorism or TPPT, as well as funding for the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction or PPSPM," concluded Mahfud.
