CENTRAL LOMBOK - Satreskrim Central Lombok Police, West Nusa Tenggara Province, managed to uncover a network of public street lighting cable thieves (PJU) on the Airport-Mandalika Bypass road, after arresting six perpetrators.
"We have arrested six perpetrators in the PJU cable theft case," said Central Lombok Police Chief AKBP Irfan Nurmansyah as quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 19.
The perpetrators of the PJU cable thieves who were arrested were the initials EE (20) a resident of Narmada, West Lombok Regency, the initials GG (25) and UI (40) a resident of Mataram City.
"The three perpetrators are residents of West Lombok and Mataram City," he said.
Then members carried out developments and succeeded in securing the other three perpetrators with the initials ARH in Prapen Village, Praya District and IB initials were secured in Sumbawa after trying to escape.
Furthermore, the Police Chief revealed that the stolen goods were sold to a collector with the initials KD in Penujak Village, West Praya District.
The team also managed to secure the collector along with evidence (BB) in the form of the PJU Lampung Copper Cable which was taken at KM 5.4, 3 on the Mandalika Bypass road.
"The perpetrator received the payment of the PJU light cable amounting to R 2,560,000.," he said.
"Based on the development of the case, it was revealed that the three perpetrators had committed the theft three times," he said.
This case was revealed starting with a report of cable theft along the BIL Mandalika Bypass road either in 2022 or ahead of the 2023 WSBK event.
"This cable theft has happened frequently," he said.
Then members carried out an investigation by conducting reconnaissance along the Mandalika Bypass road whose PJU was still on.
"On July 18, 2023, at around 01.30 WITA in the morning the team found that the three perpetrators were caught red-handed carrying out the theft of the cable in Ketare Village or Mandalika Bypass road," he said.
Of the three members, the members confiscated several pieces of evidence in the form of iron cable cutting tools and gloves in the dirty condition of excavating soil piles of PJU cables they took.
