South Kalimantan BKSDA Installs Sun Bear Traps In Teluk Haur Village

The South Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) has again set a trap to catch a herd of Madu Bears who are still roaming Teluk Haur Village, Tapin Regency.

Head of the Banua Anam Resort of the South Kalimantan BKSDA, Suhendra, said that the installation of the trap equipment will be carried out on Wednesday, July 12, tonight.

"After yesterday's arrest, according to public information, a Madu Bear appeared around Teluk Haur Village," said Suhendra as quoted by ANTARA.

The herd of the Sun Bear that entered the village was more than one. Because of that, the trap cage will be placed in a different location, but still in the Teluk Haur Village area.

"He moved to RT02, because every night people see him there," said Suhendra.

Teluk Village Secretary Haur Riza Perdian said this nokturnal animal activity was still seen roaming around in the last few days.

"Many residents witnessed (the Honey bear) still hanging around," said Riza.

Since the appearance of the Madu Bear into settlements, said Riza, so far there has never been an attack on residents. "There has been no attack," said Riza.

Previously, officers from the South Kalimantan BKSDA caught a female adult Madu Bear about one meter high behind the house of a resident of RT01, Teluk Haur Village, North Candi Laras District, on Friday (7/7) at around 23.10 WITA.

On Saturday (8/7) morning, Banua Anam Resort South Kalimantan BKSDA officers evacuated the Madu Bear to a transit cage at the Banjarbaru Region II Conservation Section Office, for health checks before being released into the wild.

Based on the analysis of the South Kalimantan BKSDA, the appearance of the Madu Bear herd was triggered by habitat damage which had changed its function to an oil palm plantation, so that this endangered animal was threatened with hunger so that it was pressed for food to the village.
