Mahfud MD Asks The Police To Be Firm In Handling The Criminal Aspects Of Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD again highlighted the polemic that occurred at the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School (Ponpes). According to him, Al Zaytun has aspects of criminal law handled by the Police.

"The criminal law aspect will certainly be handled by the National Police and will not be mined. There should not be one case being raised," Mahfud MD told reporters, Thursday, June 29.

The investigation process against Al Zaytun, continued Mahfud, there is no target time for the National Police. However, as soon as possible it will be resolved because there is a criminal aspect.

"If yes, yes, if not, no. Don't report it to be accommodated and then there are obstacles here and there, it's not going, it's not clear," he said.

In addition, Mahfud will also evaluate the administration of Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School.

"What is the evaluation action?, seeing the implementation, looking at the curriculum, looking at the teaching content and so on. So that the right to learn for students and students there will not be disturbed, continue to run," he said.

Meanwhile, based on information received by Mahfud MD, the registration process at the Islamic Boarding School is still ongoing.

"He said he was still receiving registration, please accept registration. Because Islamic boarding schools are educational institutions that we must foster, but those who violate the law must be dealt with firmly in accordance with information and reports about concrete events that occur in the midst of society," he explained.

Previously, the head of the Al-Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Panji Gumilang, was reported by the Pancasila Defenders Advocate Forum to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police. The report relates to allegations of blasphemy.

"The actions in the poko are hostile, blasphemy against religion held in Indonesia," said one of the reporters, Ihsan Tanjung, to reporters, Friday, June 23.

In the report, the context of blasphemy was allegedly carried out by Panji Gumilang regarding Al-Zaytun's teachings which were deemed to deviate from Islamic teachings.
