Fishermen Reported Missing In Bintan Waters, Found Safe

The head of the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) of Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands (Kepri), Slamet Riyadi, said that a fisherman was missing while looking for fish in the waters of Pengujan Village, Bintan, had been found safe.

Slamet said a fisherman named Amit (72 years), a resident of Tanjung Sebauk, Tanjungpinang, was found safe by the Nongsa Coast Guard, Batam City, Saturday (24/6).

"The victim was then evacuated to the village apparatus (Chairman of RW) Teluk Mata Ikan, Nongsa," Slamet said in Tanjungpinang to Antara, Sunday.

Based on mutual approval, said Slamet, the victim will be picked up directly by the family from Tanjungpinang. With the discovery of the victim, he continued, the SAR operation was declared to have been closed.

The chronology of the disappearance of the fisherman named Amit began when the victim left to fish using a green fiber canoe around the waters of Pengujan Village, Bintan Regency, Friday (23/6) in the morning.

However, until around 17.00 WIB the victim did not return home. The family, assisted by residents of Tanjung Sebauk, tried to search, but the victim was not found.

After that, the family reported the incident of Amit's disappearance to the Tanjungpinang SAR office.

Shortly after, five members of the Tanjungpinang SAR Team, assisted by local residents, immediately searched for victims by deploying a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB).

"The victim is also known to have memory problems," said Slamet Riyadi.
