KPU Reminds Regional Heads To Guarantee 2024 Election Organizers With Social Security

The General Elections Commission (KPU) reminded regional heads to take steps so that the 2024 PMeilu organizers are registered as active participants in the Employment Social Security (Jamsostek) program.

KPU chairman Hasyim Asy'ari said this was as regulated in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 2 of 2021.

"So, the President's instructions to ministers and regional heads, namely governors, regents, mayors, include instructions to provide social security for employment, including to election organizers," he told reporters at the Jakarta KPU Office, Thursday, June 22, which was confiscated by Antara.

In Presidential Instruction 2/2021 concerning the Optimization of the Implementation of the Employment Social Security Program, President Jokowi instructed governors and regents/mayors to take steps so that all workers, both wage recipients and non-wage recipients, including government employees with non-ASN status and election organizers in their regions are registered as active participants in the employment social security program.

According to Hasyim, the provision of employment social security to election organizers in the country comes from the APBD.

"The burden of financing is from the APBD because basically these election organizers must be domiciled in a juridical manner in their working area," he said.

Hasyim also said that the instruction was part of the Government's efforts to ensure the protection of election organizers in carrying out their duties, especially after the incident the number of polling group officers (KPPS) who died in the 2019 election.

In addition to employment social security, Hasyim also conveyed other efforts made by the KPU to prevent the death of KPPS officers, including limiting the age of KPPS officers in the 2024 election to a minimum of 17 years and a maximum of 55 years.

"In addition, when recruiting there are requirements to become a member of the KPPS, they must be healthy, have a health certificate," he concluded.
