Police officers arrested a man from Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, with the initials SR (24) who allegedly drained the contents of the victim's automated teller machine card (ATM), Elok Sarah Hilyatunnisah (23), who was missing with her wallet in modern retail.
Head of the Mataram Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) Kompol I Made Yogi Purusa Utama in Mataram, Friday, said that SR's arrest in the case was a follow-up to the victim's report.
"From the results of the investigation, we arrested the perpetrator early this morning at his home in the Pagutan area," said Yogi, quoted by ANTARA, Friday, June 16.
SR's actions were revealed by reports of victims who initially lost their wallets in one of the modern retailers in the Dasan Cermen area, Mataram City, at the end of May 2023.
"At that time the victim admitted that he was in a hurry to go to the hospital, so his wallet was left behind," he said.
The victim realized this when he arrived at the hospital. However, when he returned to the modern retailer, the victim's wallet which was stored on the table was gone.
"Knowing that the wallet was not there, the victim asked for help from modern retailers to check CCTV footage," he said.
From the recording, it was revealed the role of SR who took the victim's wallet on the table.
"In the wallet there is cash, ATM card, and other identity cards," said Yogi.
Taking the victim's money through the ATM card was also revealed from CCTV footage showing SR directly visiting the ATM machine in the modern retailer.
SR's actions were also strengthened by the results of the victim's check through the banking transaction application. The balance in the victim's account worth Rp. 4 million has been drained by the perpetrator.
"So, this perpetrator did not have good faith to return the victim's wallet, instead draining the victim's money at the ATM," he said.
From the arrest, it was revealed how the perpetrator was able to access the victim's ATM card, which refers to the date of birth on the victim's ID card.
"In that way, this perpetrator can access and drain the contents of the victim's ATM balance," he said.
To the police, SR admitted that he had used some of the victim's money to buy loudspeakers and gold.
