The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Kalimantan Province appealed to residents in Tengkajau Village, Melawi Regency to be aware of further landslides if the intensity of rain is getting higher and longer.
"We urge residents of Tengkajau Village to remain alert to subsequent landslides if the intensity of the rain gets longer. There is no need to panic and remain alert, one of which is preparing important family documents so as not to be scattered when saving themselves," said Head of the West Kalimantan Province BPBD Disaster Information Task Force Daniel in Pontianak, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, June 13.
From reports in the field, on Sunday (11/6) there was heavy rain. Then on Monday (12/6) at 14.00 WIB, there was a landslide in Tengkajau Village, Pinoh District, Melawi Regency. According to information about the incident report, he only received it at 21.10 WIB on the same day.
From this incident, it resulted in the interruption of land road access between hamlets in Tengkajau Village, the damage to the stairs of one resident's house to climb to the mainland from the Melawi River and damaged residents' garden plants.
"There were 36 families affected by the landslide disaster in Melawi. Grateful for the incident there were no casualties. Currently, the urgent need for residents is in the form of repairing village roads, making retaining embankments and repairing residents' fences," he said.
It is important to know according to him, namely the sign of a landslide. Then the community should be sensitive to the surrounding situation.
He said that natural signs of landslides were that the cliffs were already fragile and the pebbles had fallen a lot. Then there are cracks on the slopes that are parallel to the direction of the cliffs. Cracks appear usually after the rain.
In addition, the yard or floor of the house suddenly collapsed, where the land collapsed in large quantities, suddenly appeared springs, electric poles and or tilted trees, windows and doors of the house suddenly found it difficult to open and there was no puddle of water in the ground after the rain.
"If natural signs are found like that, the community immediately coordinates with the village or sub-district government and reminds each other to be prepared - ready to save themselves independently," he reminded.
In addition, if in the village there are vulnerable groups such as the elderly (elderly), sick people, disabilities, pregnant women and children, they must be prioritized to be evacuated.
