Police Arrested Syndicate Of Thieves And Fraudsters From Makassar In Cirebon

CIREBON - Cirebon City Police, West Java, arrested seven syndicates of thieves and inter-provincial fraudsters from Makassar.

"We have arrested seven people for theft and fraud cases, they are a syndicate," said Cirebon City Police Chief AKBP Ariek Indra Sentana, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, June 12.

Ariek said the seven suspected syndicates arrested by the Cirebon City Police Satreskrim, had the initials MU, SA, AL, HI, AK, RS, and SR. They are residents of Makassar City, South Sulawesi.

According to him, the seven suspects are still brothers. The perpetrator has intended to carry out fraud and theft since the origin of the region.

"These seven suspects have their respective roles in carrying out their crimes, some as executors, strategy regulators, drivers, providing places, clothes, and so on," he said.

While in action in the Cirebon area, the suspect observed every person or potential victim who had been targeted.

Then, continued Ariek, one of the suspects with the initials MU tried to convince the victim to enter the syndicate scenario, by pretending to be an official and having colleagues from abroad.

After the victim was included in the scenario of a syndicate from Makassar, he immediately took action by exchanging the victim's ATM card. The contents in the ATM were drained out.

"These suspects managed to steal the victim's cash from three ATMs amounting to Rp. 88 million," he said.

The crime was committed by the suspects after they landed in Cirebon on May 21, 2023.

From the hands of the suspects, the police confiscated a number of evidences including dozens of ATM cards, cell phones, minibuses, and so on.

"As a result of his actions, the seven suspects were charged with Article 363 of the Criminal Code and 378 of the Criminal Code with the threat of imprisonment for a maximum of seven years in prison," he said.
