Puan Highlights Drug Bunkers On Campus, Kemendikbudristek Asked To Collaborate With Police And BNN To Clean Up

JAKARTA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, highlighted the discovery of a drug bunker in one of the campuses in Makassar, South Sulawesi. He emphasized the importance of increasing education about the dangers of drug abuse.

"The discovery of a drug bunker in an educational environment is our common concern, and it must be used as an evaluation," said Puan, Friday, June 9.

Puan asked the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) to collaborate with the police and BNN to build the creation of a campus environment free from drugs. One of them is by intensifying education and socialization.

"Masifize education and outreach to young people about the dangers of drug use. In order not to fall into, direct their talents with targeted educational programs," he explained.

Puan also encouraged the Government to collaborate with community social institutions or other agencies that focus on drug weighting.

The cooperation of every element of the nation is needed in an effort to protect our next generation from the threat of drugs. Because eradicating drugs cannot be done by just one or two parties, but must work together, including the role of the DPR," said Puan.

On the other hand, the National Police was asked to publish openly accompanied by education to the public regarding drug enforcement. Puan said this was to avoid missleading which actually caused various opinions that were troubling the public.

Puan revealed that the findings of drug bunkers in the campus environment will cause anxiety among parents about the safety of their children who are studying in higher education.

"The community, especially parents, needs to be directed at what they have to do to address the impact of the incident, and how to anticipate so that their child does not fall into drugs," said Puan.

"Don't assume that the community is only enough to know, or just update. The most important thing is to provide solutions to the community," he added.

Puan then encouraged law enforcement officials to immediately thoroughly investigate the discovery of a drug bunker in the educational environment. The Ministry of Education and Culture is also asked to make further efforts to handle the circulation of narcotics on campus.

"Make sure our children take education in a safe environment so that they can produce achievements. The infrastructure for supporting security on campus must also be improved, as well as assistance for guardian lecturers not to slack off," said Puan.

He also reminded the importance of environmental support for students. Because apart from material support, said Puan, mental support is also needed to protect the younger generation from drug snares.
