Reasons For The Ministry Of Education And Culture To Revoke A Private University Permit With Problems

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) revoked the operational permits of a number of problematic private universities (PTS).

Acting Director General of Diktiristek Kemendikbudristek Nizam stated that the withdrawal was carried out to protect students from poor education and fraud.

"Revocation of permits is carried out to protect the public, especially students from poor education and fraud by naughty education providers," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 8.

Nizam ensured that the decision to revoke the operational permits of several PTS was based on validated facts and data, such as public reports or results of field monitoring.

Every report that comes from the public accompanied by preliminary evidence is always followed up by the Ministry of Education and Culture by deepening and evaluating the field.

The Ministry of Education and Culture first dispatched several teams before imposing sanctions ranging from the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDikti), the Institutional Directorate, the Academic Performance Evaluation Team, to the Inspectorate General team.

"Based on an in-depth evaluation and recommendations, coaching is carried out so that if a permit has to be revoked," said Nizam.

Universities whose permits are revoked are universities that commit serious violations such as not meeting the provisions of higher education standards, carrying out fictitious learning, and practicing buying and selling diplomas.

In addition, the serious violations also included irregularities in the provision of scholarships for the Indonesia Smart Lecture Card (KIP-K) as well as disputes between the organizers which resulted in the learning process not being conducive.

"Sanctions imposed are in accordance with the level of violation," he said.

Nizam hopes that prospective students who will enroll in college will be careful and not easily tempted by the lure of students.

He also reminded prospective students to ensure in advance that universities and study programs to be registered have been accredited.

In addition, when it is accepted to become a student, it must be ensured that learning really occurs, the lecturer is competent and in accordance with the prospectus.

"If it is not appropriate, report it to the nearest LLDikti or through the Report page at the Ministry of Education and Culture," said Nizam.

Until the end of March 2023, there were 4,231 universities with 29,324 study programs and more than 9 million students and 330 thousand lecturers spread throughout Indonesia.
