15 Victims Of Trafficking In Ende NTT Tempted By Salary Of IDR 300-400 Thousand Per Day, Suspect Threatened With 15 Years In Prison

The Ende Police, East Nusa Tenggara, said that the motive for the suspect in the crime of trafficking in persons (TPPO) in 15 people in the district was economic factors. "It is strongly suspected that the suspect wants to get material benefits in the form of money for his efforts to dispatch non-procedural or illegal workers," said Kasatreskrim Ende Police Iptu Yance Kadiaman when contacted from Kupang, Antara, Sunday, June 4. A suspect with the initials PD alias Lipus was arrested by the Joint TIP Team on Saturday at 23.00 WITA in the Moni area and has been secured at the Ende Police. At the beginning of the chronology, the suspect was contacted by a older brother with the initials KL in Riau who asked the suspect to look for a workforce to be employed at PT RAPP, which is located at Pekanbaru with a salary of Rp. 10 thousand per ton or around Rp. 3 million - Rp. 4 million per month. Suspect PD began recruiting by meeting and offering jobs in Pekanbaru to residents around the Kelimutu District which took place from March to October 2022. PD also managed to recruit 15 victims who were given the lure of earning an income of around Rp. 300 thousand to Rp. 400 thousand per day. The victims were dispatched from Ende by hiding at the back of the expedition car using KM Niki Sejahtera from Ende to Surabaya. Arriving there, the victims were taken to the Sibaya area. However, after five months of working in the destination area, the victims did not get a salary and were even in debt. The victims also felt cheated and decided to return to Ende. "Of the 15 victims who departed, four victims have managed to return to Ende," said Yance. The suspect's actions, said Yance, had fulfilled two sufficient pieces of evidence because he had committed a criminal act of trafficking in persons as referred to in Article 2 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 21 of 2017 concerning the Elimination of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons.

The suspect was also charged with imprisonment for a minimum of three years and a maximum of 15 years with a fine of at least Rp120 million and a maximum of Rp600 million or Article 10 of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 21 of 2017 concerning the Elimination of the Crime of Trafficking in Persons with a minimum imprisonment of three years and a maximum of 15 years and a maximum fine of at least Rp120 million and a maximum of Rp600 million.
