People With HIV/AIDS In Tangerang Are Dominated By Employees

TANGERANG - The Tangerang Regency Health Office (Dinkes), Banten said that people with HIV/AIDS in the area were dominated by non-professional groups or private employees.

"The distribution is currently the most cases with HIV/AIDS are non-professional workers or employees. For details, from the total number of cases, around 35 percent," said Head of the Tangerang District Health Office, Dr Muchlis, to ANTARA in Tangerang, Monday, May 29.

According to him, by dominating the transmission of HIV/AIDS among non-professional circles, it is suspected that this is due to free sex behavior outside of marriage, thus referring to the high number of cases.

"We don't know exactly how much gender is divided. But we will try to be careful again," he said.

Then, he said, from HIV/AIDS cases based on professional data this year, the highest number of sufferers was among professional workers with a total range of 10 percent.

Based on statistics made by the Tangerang Health Office, there are also people with HIV/AIDS from the housewives (IRT) group. Even now in third place after employees and non-professional/privates, with the number of cases reaching 8.6 percent.

In the same statistics, it shows that the spread of HIV/AIDS cases also not only targets employees, non-professional/private and IRT, but also massively spreads to other professions such as prostitutes commercial sex workers, laborers/tourists, students/students, Civil Servants (PNS), TNI/Polri, religious circles.

"For school children, it is still relatively low, if according to the order of the employee case it is in 7th or around 1.5 percent of the number. And in terms of the sex worker profession, it is even low for this HIV case, maybe they have been educated a lot," he explained.

He revealed that based on last year's data from January to November 2022, 522 residents in the area suffered from active HIV/AIDS disease.

Where, of the 522 cases, there are 372 HIV sufferers and 150 other people with AIDS spread across several areas in Tangerang Regency.

"There are around 522 cases, there are about that many. Of the total 13 types of jobs, approximately 522 cases are in 2022. But for 2023, the January-May period is approximately below 160 cases," he said.

However, with the large number of HIV/AIDS sufferers in their area, the Tangerang Regency Government continues to make efforts to suppress and control by socializing prevention, stigma intervention and discrimination against HIV.

"That's why at this time we are carrying out educational steps for prospective young brides, by eliminating them for prevention in the spread of HIV," he said.
