Governor Edy Reminds ASN Not To Play Politics: If You Play Politics I'll Law You Later

North Sumatra Governor Edy Rahmayadi asked the state civil apparatus (ASN) within the provincial government not to be involved in practical politics in the 2024 election.

"ASN has nothing to do with politics, don't mess with politics, if you play politics, later I will law it, we ask to understand this," said Edy Rahmayadi when inaugurating 64 echelon III and echelon IV officials within the North Sumatra Provincial Government, in Medan, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, May 25.

Governor Edy said ASN has three main tasks to carry out. First, carry out the general policies stated in the 1945 Constitution, other laws to regional regulations. Second, the duty of ASN as the glue of the nation's children. Third, the duty of ASN as public servants.

"There is no reason an ASN does not serve the community," he said.

For this reason, Edy Rahmayadi asked all ASN who were inaugurated to be responsible for the duties and positions that had been given.

"So ASN's duty is to glue the nation's children, there is no need to know what ethnicity he is, what religion he wants, his job is clear, the welfare of the nation's life which is required through national ideals," he said.

The form of the ASN prohibition is regulated in Government Regulation Number 53 of 2010 concerning Civil Servant Discipline, namely providing support by becoming participants and/implementing the campaign for presidential/vice-presidential candidates, the House of Representatives (DPR), the Regional Representative Council (DPD) or the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).

In addition, ASN is prohibited from providing support to presidential/vice-presidential candidates by making decisions/acts that harm one of the pairs of candidates and/or holding activities to benefit one of the specific pairs of candidates.

Furthermore, ASN is prohibited from providing support to candidates for DPD members or candidates for regional heads/deputy regional heads by providing a letter of support accompanied by photocopies of identity cards or identity certificates.

The prohibition includes providing support to candidates for regional heads/deputies by being involved in campaign activities, using facilities related to positions; making decisions and/or actions that benefit or harm one of the pairs of candidates; holding activities that lead to partiality to the pairs of candidates who are election participants.
