2 Years Fugitive, Fraud Perpetrator In Banyumas Finally Arrested By Police

PURWOKERTO - Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the City Police (Polresta) Banyumas, Central Java, revealed a case of alleged criminal acts of fraud or embezzlement against money from car sales worth Rp150 million. "The perpetrator with the initials AM (42), a resident of Cilongok, Banyumas Regency, we managed to arrest him at his home after being fugitive for more than two years," said Head of the Banyumas Police, Police Commissioner Edy Suranta Sitepu accompanied by the Head of Satreskrim Kompol Agus Supriadi Siswanto, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 25. According to him, the alleged case of fraud or embezzlement experienced by the victim with the initials AS, a resident of South Purwokerto, Banyumas, occurred around June 2020. The case began with the victim's plan to buy a Pajero Sport Dakar car from a seller named Munaji through AM as an intermediary. After an agreement occurred, AS transferred the advance money to Munaji as the seller and the repayment would be paid using money from the sale of a car unit Mazda Biante with the number R-9460-VH belonging to the victim. The victim handed over Mazda Biante's car which was estimated to be worth Rp150 million to AM which had been given the trust to sell the car. However, after the Mazda Biante's car was sold, the money from the sale was not handed over to the victim and it was not deposited to Munaji to pay off the purchase of a Pajero Sport Dakar car unit, so the US reported the case to the Banyumas Police. Kasatreskrim Kompol Agus Supriadi Siswanto said based on the report, his party carried out an investigation but it turned out that the perpetrator with the initials AM had fled. Finally, we got information if AM returned to his house, so we were able to catch the person concerned on Friday, "he explained.

According to him, AM and evidence in the form of a bundle of prints from screenshots of WhatsApp conversations have been secured at the Banyumas Police Headquarters for further investigation. "Regarding the threat of punishment, AM was charged with Article 378 of the Criminal Code or Article 372 of the Criminal Code," he said.
