JAKARTA - The Surabaya City Government in East Java Province has allocated Rp120 billion to repair uninhabitable houses belonging to underprivileged residents who were targeted by the Dandan Omah Program in 2023.

"The Surabaya City Government has prepared a budget of Rp120 billion to realize the target of undergoing uninhabitable housing surgery this year," said Deputy Mayor of Surabaya Armuji, quoted from Antara, Sunday.

The Surabaya City Public Housing and Settlement and Land Office targets as many as 3,500 uninhabitable houses targeted by the Dandan Omah Program to be repaired during 2023.

According to the Deputy Mayor, since the program was launched on March 31, 2021 until the end of 2022, the total number of uninhabitable houses that have been repaired has been 1,474 units.

The implementation of the Dandan Omah Program involves a House Repair Technical Group (KTPR) consisting of local residents.

There are four local workers who are employed in repairing each uninhabitable housing unit with a work completion period of about 20 days.

Funding assistance provided by the government for the repair of each uninhabitable house is IDR 35 million.

Armuji said that the city government had instructed the sub-district and village heads to record residents whose houses were not livable so that they could be proposed as targets for the housing repair program.

"The obstacles we find in the field are often residents whose houses are not suitable but are not registered in the Gamis (poor family) application or there are cases of land ownership status," he said.

He conveyed that the Dandan Omah Program was run to improve the quality of residents' housing, which was further expected to encourage an increase in the health and welfare of residents.

"The Surabaya City Government also benefits because with this program the slum area in Surabaya continues to decrease. The municipal government can also collaborate with the private sector in urban planning, and in turn, the welfare of Surabaya residents will increase," he said.
