Prevent Abuse, Pangdam XVII/Cenderawasih Tightens Firearms Supervision

JAYAPURA - Commander of KodamXVII/Cenderawasih Major General TNI Muhammad Saleh Mustafa said he would tighten supervision of the misuse of firearms and ammunition used by soldiers.

"This is important to do, because after the increase in cases of misuse of firearms and ammunition by members of the TNI in 2022," he said in Jayapura as reported by ANTARA, Monday, May 15.

According to Saleh, his party will also take firm action against every soldier involved in the misuse of firearms and ammunition.

"Ask all unit commanders on duty in Cenderawasih Earth to tighten supervision in and out of firearms and ammunition against TNI soldiers," he said.

He explained that the increase in cases of misuse of firearms involving the community and members of the TNI occurred from January to July 2022 so that there were 22 cases.

"So there are 24 cases involving the community and members of the TNI, the first is the supervision and tightening of the entry and exit of firearms and ammunition, so it must be improved because from July to December there were no cases. But now it appears again in February, this is a warning to all TNI leaders in Papua," he said.

The TNI appealed to the local community if they knew about the information on the misuse of firearms and ammunition by TNI soldiers to be immediately reported to the security forces.
