Let Jera, KPK Discourse On Corruptor Prisoners Detained In Nusakambangan

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has discussed that corrupt convicts be placed in the Nusakambangan Correctional Institution (Lapas), Cilacap Regency, Central Java. The placement discourse is to provide a stronger deterrent effect.

"This is still a discourse. The hope is that if the prison for corruptors is in Nusakambangan, then it will be more frightening and have a deterrent effect," said KPK Deputy Chair Nurul Ghufron at the KPK's Red and White Building, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 9, as reported by Antara.

Ghufron said that the prisons for corruption convicts were considered to have little deterrent effect so that the anti-corruption agency considered alternative locations. However, this is still only a study.

"Of course it is a study if he is only sentenced to imprisonment in other places, he may consider it normal, so it needs to be strengthened to be more frightening and have a deterrent effect," he said.

In the upload, the KPK recommends several improvements to the management of correctional institutions (prisons) to provide a stronger deterrent effect and prevent corruption.

Furthermore, in the recommendation for medium-term improvement, the KPK suggested three things:

1. A revision of PP 99 of 2012 was made regarding the granting of remissions in drug cases.

2. Create a diversion mechanism for minor criminal cases and narcotics users by optimizing the role of the Correctional Agency.

3. Putting/forwarding corruption convicts to Nusakambangan.
