The East Java Regional Police Forensic Laboratory Team (Labfor) investigated the cause of the fire at the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Branch Representative Council (MWC) office in Lenteng District which occurred on May 5, 2023.

Sumenep Police Chief AKBP Edo Satya Kentriko said the police needed to conduct laboratory tests, considering that during the fire there were no residents who involved the incident.

"Therefore, based on the results of the test later, it will be known what is the cause, so that we can take further steps to investigate the incident," said the police chief as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 8.

The fire from the MWC NU office in Lenteng District on May 6, 2023 is the second time. A similar case also occurred on April 23, 2023.

Some residents suspect that the disaster that occurred twice in a short period of time was due to the actions of irresponsible persons, and what caught fire was building materials that were piled up beside the office.

"The results from this Labfor will later be a clue for us in working, thoroughly investigating the case," said the Police Chief.

According to the Chairperson of PCNU Tanfidziyah Sumenep KH A Pandji Taufiq, the building materials in the form of wood are the result of community self-help which is donated to the improvement of the NU office.

"Fortunately, when the fire broke out, there were a number of people who spent the night at the NU Lenteng MWC office. Otherwise, the fire will likely spread and burn almost all office buildings," he explained.
