JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing or PUPR will audit government buildings and housing that are still standing in West Sulawesi after the earthquake.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono stated, to ensure security, all buildings will be audited for their technical feasibility, especially government buildings and housing that are still standing.

"The audit aims to determine whether the building is still feasible or not, even though it looks good at first glance. If it is still suitable for use, then it is enough to renovate it a little," said Minister Basuki in a written statement received in Jakarta, reported by Antara, Wednesday, January 20.

To move quickly to handle emergency response, Minister Basuki has appointed the Director of Road and Bridge Preservation Region II, Directorate General of Highways Thomas Setiabudi Aden as field commander for earthquake emergency response in West Sulawesi.

Its task will be to coordinate technical centers within the Ministry of PUPR in the province to carry out emergency response handling.

As an effort to deal with the earthquake disaster emergency in West Sulawesi, the PUPR Ministry has deployed heavy equipment to begin cleaning up debris in Mamuju and Majene Districts, which are in the worst condition.

Heavy equipment that has been deployed is in the form of 9 excavators, one backhoe loader unit, one dozer unit, one trontoon unit, 5 dump trucks, and one crane car unit.

In addition, the PUPR Ministry has also deployed clean water and sanitation facilities and infrastructure for refugees and affected communities, including 6 water tank cars, 30 water tanks, 1 toilet car, and 10 emergency tents.
