BOGOR - The District Attorney (Kejari) of Bogor Regency, West Java, arrested the defendant in a fraud case, Tiopan Martua Napitupulu, who has been on the run for 12 years.

Head of the General Crimes Section (Kasi) of the Bogor District Attorney's Office, Widiyanto Nugroho, led Tiopan's arrest at his hiding place, at a villa located in Tajur, Bogor City.

"The defendants often moved from residences, starting from the Duren Sawit area, Pondok Gede, East Jakarta and a number of places in Bogor," said Widi as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, May 4.

He explained that Tiopan and three other defendants had been detained by the Bogor District Attorney's Office in a fraud case that they carried out together in 1998 regarding a land certificate of 4,300 meters in Kopo Village, Ciarua District, Bogor Regency.

During the trial process 12 years ago, the judge determined that Tiopan, who works as a clergy, would not be detained, so that at that time Tiopan would never again attend the trial.

Even so, the trial process at that time continued. Tiopan was sentenced to a heavier sentence, namely two years in prison, while the other three defendants were 1.5 years in prison.

Widi explained that after Tiopan was arrested, he was immediately executed to Cibinong Prison for two years to be detained, according to the verdict given by the panel of judges.

"To the suspects or convicts of criminal cases, I remind you 'you can run but you can't hide'. You can run but you can't hide, we will definitely arrest you," said Widi.
