Hit By Flash Floods, 900 Cianjur Residents Refuge And Local Government Build Public Kitchens

CIANJUR - The Cianjur Regency Government, West Java, established a public kitchen in Ciranjang Village, Ciranjang Subdistrict for the needs of 900 victims of flash floods in eight villages in two sub-districts, in order to ease the burden on residents, especially those who are still displaced. The Regent of Cianjur Regency, Herman Suherman, said that the flash floods that hit eight villages in Ciranjang and Bojongpicung sub-districts caused 93 families to flee at the Ciranjang Village Hall because their houses were still thick mud. "We have asked the Cianjur Regency Social Service, to establish a public kitchen and health service to establish health posts for residents who need services. Public kitchens to meet the needs of flood victims in two sub-districts," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 3. Herman explained, for residents' houses and public facilities that were submerged in mud that were left by floods, Wednesday morning, joint officers from BPBD, TNI/Polri, PMI Cianjur, and Damkar Cianjur. However, his party asked residents to temporarily survive the time in the evacuation because the rainfall is still high and the water discharge in the Ciranjang River is still high, so that it is prone to aftershocks, plus subduction and garbage that build up after the flood. "We hope that the post built can ease the burden on flood victims, for women, it is better to survive in the evacuation, while men can guard the house at night or do a common patrol," he said.

The head of Ciranjang Village, Dede Efendi, said that entering the third day after the flood, residents who were still displaced at the village hall had started to decrease from 293 people, currently there were still 50 percent left because most of their houses were damaged by the flood. "Currently, we have received assistance from public kitchens and health posts from the Cianjur Regency Government. Public kitchen stalls will also be distributed to several villages in Bojongpicung District which borders Ciranjang," he said.
