Concerned, Hundreds Of Families In East OKU Celebrate Eid In The Middle Of Floods

MARTAPURA - Hundreds of families in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Timur Regency, South Sumatra celebrated Eid al-Fitr in the midst of a flood disaster due to the high rainfall intensity that occurred on Sunday, April 23 evening. "The flood this time is the worst flood with water levels reaching one meter," said Danar, a resident of Riang Bandung Village, Madang Sub-district Tribe II, East OKU, quoted by ANTARA Monday, April 24. He said hundreds of houses in the village were flooded, thus disrupting community activities celebrating Eid. "Floods have occurred since Sunday night at 21.00 WIB and so far have not subsided," he said. This condition makes residents uncomfortable so that they are forced to postpone the tradition of visiting their relatives' homes to celebrate Eid and choosing to stay at home waiting for floods to recede. Meanwhile, the Head of East OKU BPBD Habibulah, through the Head of Emergency and Logistics Budi separately, said that flood disasters due to the high rainfall intensity to overflowing of the Komering River hit hundreds of houses in three villages in the region. A total of 164 houses affected by the flood disaster spread across three villages covering Baturaja Bungin, Sabah Lioh and Tanjung Kemala Villages, Bunga Mayang District. "Fortunately in this disaster did not cause casualties, but due to floods of community activity became disrupted, especially now it is still in the atmosphere of Eid," he said.

According to him, his party has sent assistance in the form of rubber boats to evacuate flood victims to safe places to anticipate further flooding.
