JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the House of Representatives Sarifuddin Sudding hopes that members of the police can improve their professionalism in the future. He also encourages the police to be more humane and responsive in providing services to the community.
This was said by Sudding in the context of the 80th anniversary of the National Police which is commemorated every July 1.
"The 80th Bhayangkara Day is an opportunity to strengthen the agenda for law enforcement reform, which has always been a common concern," Sarifuddin Sudding told reporters, Thursday, July 2.
According to Sudding, the development of a more dynamic community requires a law enforcement system that is not only able to respond to crimes quickly, but also able to provide legal certainty, protection of citizen's rights, and a sense of justice that can be felt by the community.
"Of course at the age of 80, we hope that the National Police in law enforcement can increasingly prioritize a humanistic, empathetic, and responsive approach to various problems arising in society. So that the presence of the National Police really gives a sense of security, comfort and justice for the community," explained Sudding.
Sudding also appreciated the achievements of the National Police, which according to the latest Litbang Kompas survey, the public's satisfaction with the National Police increased from 65.1 percent in 2025 to 67.6 percent this year.
Then, as many as 82.4 percent of respondents also stated that they believed that the performance of the Bhayangkara Kops would get better. Regarding this, Sudding assessed that the National Police must be able to realize the good expectations of the community.
"Moreover, the challenges of the police in the future will be increasingly complex. Various dynamics, both national and global, demand the police to be more capable and sophisticated in dealing with crime," said the PAN legislator from the Central Sulawesi District.
In addition to the increase in cybercrime, Sudding said transnational crimes, human trafficking, narcotics, and digital economic crimes were also a major challenge for the National Police. The National Police is also faced with increasing public expectations for the quality of service and professionalism of law enforcement officers.
This member of the DPR's Law Enforcement Commission assessed that the condition requires strengthening the institutional capacity of the National Police. According to Sudding, strengthening the institution of the National Police also needs to be supported by regulations, technology, and the improvement of human resources (HR) competence.
"Therefore, we, the Commission III of the DPR RI, encourage the National Police to accelerate the strengthening of law enforcement based on scientific crime investigation, digital forensics, the use of artificial intelligence for crime analysis, and the integration of law enforcement data between institutions," he explained.
"Modernization is important so that the ability of the Polri institution can develop in line with the changing modus operandi of increasingly sophisticated perpetrators of crime," added Sudding.
On the other hand, Sudding emphasized that the modernization of law enforcement must go hand in hand with strengthening internal accountability. Oversight of the use of authority, increased transparency of the investigation process, and the rapid resolution of public complaints will further strengthen the legitimacy of the police institution in the eyes of the public.
As a working partner of the National Police, Sudding stated that Commission III of the DPR RI would continue to carry out oversight functions to ensure that every agenda for institutional reform of the National Police was carried out consistently, as well as supporting the strengthening of institutional capacity through the necessary legislation and budgeting policies.
"Police reform is an ongoing process that must produce one main goal, namely increasing legal certainty, protecting people's rights, and public confidence in law enforcement institutions," said Sudding.
Sudding hopes that if there are still things that are lacking, the National Police can immediately adapt by improving performance. Meanwhile, for good achievements, he said, the National Police must be able to maintain it.
"We hope that the National Police will become stronger so that its service tasks for the State and for the community will be better. Happy 80th Anniversary of the National Police for all police officers in the country, continue to move forward with the people," he concluded.
