Mamuju Port Is Temporarily Closed After The Majene Earthquake

JAKARTA - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) temporarily closed the operations of Mamuju Port, West Sulawesi, following a tectonic earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale that occurred in the Majene area, West Sulawesi, on Friday at 02.28 WITA.

PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Corporate Secretary Shelvy Arifin said, currently ASDP is temporarily closing Mamuju Port operations, until conditions return to normal.

"Reports from the location, communication access and electricity networks are still completely cut off. Roads and bridges to the port have also been cut off," he said as quoted by Antara, Friday, January 15.

The conditions at Mamuju Port were damaged at a number of points, including the parking area and access to the trestle which had cracks but did not cause fatal damage so that vehicles could still be passed.

"We will again confirm the condition of the floating dock (moveable bridge), and the sea side gutter whether it changes its position or experiences cracks that can impact landslides. In addition, the condition of the passenger waiting room and office will also ensure safety, especially the roof, wall structures and others. which has an impact on the safety, security and comfort of service users, "said Shelvy.

Meanwhile, in Mamuju Port only operates the KMP Laskar Pelangi owned by PT Jembatan Nusantara which serves the Kariangau (Balikpapan) -Mamuju route.

"With the current condition, the operation of KMP Laskar Pelangi will be postponed until the situation is safe for service and shipping, and the condition of the dock at the port is confirmed to be ready to operate again," he said.

However, the management ensured that ASDP officers at Mamuju Port were in a safe condition and had evacuated with their families to the highlands in accordance with directions from the West Sulawesi Provincial Government.

"We also continue to coordinate with related agencies in Mamuju and Balikpapan. If later the condition of the dock and port is confirmed safe and can operate again, it is hoped that service operations can return to normal, especially post-earthquake logistical and operational assistance can be distributed using KMP Laskar Pelangi. and ASDP's ship in Balikpapan, "he said.
