JAKARTA - The price of a number of food commodities such as rice, eggs, chilies, and onions at Pasar Jaya Gondangdia, Central Jakarta, increased on Monday, March 27 or the first week of Ramadan following the increasing demand from the public.
One of the chili and onions traders at Jaya Gondangdia Market, Yani (41) said the price of red cayenne pepper reached Rp95,000 per kilogram from the previous Rp70,000 per kilogram. Likewise, shallots and garlic are at Rp40,000-50,000 per kilogram.
"Onions and chilies have increased from before Ramadan. The increase is around Rp. 5,000-10,000, but there are still many enthusiasts, because it's for takjil, the main spice ingredient is cooking, so there's no difference," Yani said when met at the location as reported by Antara.
The increase also occurred in rice and eggs, rice rose to IDR 10,000 per liter, while eggs to IDR 32,000 per kilogram.
"Sekilonya naik Rp500 persen kalau beras. Sebelumnya kan naiknya tinggi, terus ada penurunan sebelum Ramadhan kisaran Rp500-1,000 per kilogram, nah sekarang naik lagi, begitu juga ekster yang harganya masih meningkat kisaran Rp28,000-32,000," kata salah satu pedagang beras dan yang di Pasar Jaya Gondangdia, Hasan (41).
The high price of rice, Hasan said, had an impact on decreasing consumer levels at Pasar Jaya Gondangdia.
On the other hand, the price of beef decreased at the beginning of Ramadan 1444 Hijri from the previous Rp155,000 to Rp145,000 per kilogram.
"Now it's been down since 2 days ago, because there are no buyers and it's decreasing, so if you want Eid, you will definitely go up again. Maybe yesterday it was also crowded because of the first fast, so you want to eat well," said the meat seller at Pasar Jaya Gondangdia, Emus (41).
In addition, one of the sellers of oil and sugar, Joni (80) said that the price of oil also decreased by around Rp. 2,000-5,000. Meanwhile, the price of sugar is relatively stable at Rp. 14,000 per kilogram.
"The oil even fell, previously it used to sell Rp. 17,000 per kilogram, now it's selling Rp. 15,000, now Rp. 42,000 is now Rp. 38,000," said Joni.
The decline in oil prices, said Joni, was because oil enthusiasts at Pasar Jaya Gondangdia were getting quieter.
"The buyer was quiet during Ramadan, just look at it, no one else. It went down because it was quiet, so the interest was lacking while people needed money, so the price was lowered. If the buyer has a lot, the price will also go up, usually it will go up when you want Eid," explained Joni.
