JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the DPR RI Didik Mukrianto asked the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to investigate the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) report against the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, regarding the alleged gratification of Rp7 billion. According to him, law enforcement officers are required to carry out administrative and substantive examinations of the alleged gratification. As well as conducting transparent and accountable investigations. "If there is a report to the KPK regarding the existence of alleged criminal acts of corruption, then it becomes the KPK's obligation to explore and examine," Didik told reporters, Thursday, 16 March. Even so, Didik assessed that law enforcement officials must uphold the principle of presumption of innocence. The Democratic legislator also believes that the KPK will be professional in handling the report from the IPW. Moreover, according to the rules, Didik said, the KPK must carry out clarification regarding the report for a maximum of 30 working days. "Ideally, the KPK will clarify and be examined by the KPK within a maximum of 30 working days from the date of the report received," he explained. Even in accordance with Government Regulation 43/2018, Didik added, for anyone who is considered to have contributed in an effort to help efforts to prevent or eradicate corruption crimes is entitled to receive protection and also reward. "Let us respect the ongoing process. Of course we hope, if in administrative and substantive examinations it is found that there are indications of corruption crimes accompanied by sufficient initial evidence, the KPK will carry out legal action in a transparent, fair and accountable manner," he concluded.
