JAKARTA - The state-owned national airline Garuda Indonesia expressed its sorrow for the loss of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 plane which allegedly crashed around the waters of the Thousand Islands on Saturday, January 9 afternoon.

Citing the official Instagram page of Garuda @ garuda.indonesia, the red plate airline shared its concern in English.

"We deeply saddened to hear about the latest news on Sriwijaya Air # SJ182 (We are very sad to hear the latest news about Sriwijaya Air)," wrote Garuda.

Garuda, which has also worked closely with Sriwijaya Air, did not forget to provide moral support to the families of passengers who are now waiting for news regarding the condition of their loved ones.

"Our heartfelt prayers go out to all family members and friends of the victims," said Garuda on Instagram.

As is known, the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 plane took off from Soekarno Hatta Airport to Pontianak at 14:36 WIB.

At 14.37 WIB it passed 1700 feet and made contact with the Jakarta Approach. Aircraft are allowed to rise to an altitude of 29,000 feet following the Standard Instrument Departure.

At 14:40 WIB, the Jakarta Approach saw the Sriwijaya Air plane not heading for 075 degrees but heading to the Northwest (North West), therefore it was asked by ATC to report the direction of the plane.

Not long after, within seconds, the plane disappeared from the radar of the Jakarta ATC monitoring.
